Ming Dao - Tian Guo De Jia Yi

I am not a person who watch Mandarin/Taiwanese drama often. I watched them once when I was young and I really hate them. First, its for the draggy story - it really bored me to DEATH. Secondly, for its non-stop flow of tears from the actor/actresses - don't they have some HAPPY story to spare? Love is not necessarily HEART BREAKING!! Third, the language barrier. My spoken language are Cantonese, English and Bahasa Malaysia with my friends and family. Though I could understand some simple phrases, but I can hardly understand a complicated ones. That was the Taiwanese drama long, long time ago. Although time has flown by and a new generation of Taiwanese drama has been created, I could not break my hold from my point.

So, what exactly HAPPENED? What encourages me to watch Taiwanese drama all over again? Good question, and here's the story:

One day, a friend of mine, Jo (short for Josephine) introduced me to watched a Taiwanese drama. She kept pointing out to me that the drama is a good one. The leading man is an international super among supermodel. I took a good look at the cover of the VCD - he ain't good looking to me, whoever that is. And the title reads, La robe de Mariee des cieux (Heaven's Wedding Dress - Tian Guo De Jia Yi). She went on saying why the drama is good and that I watched it, I will surely LOVE it. But she made no mention of Ming Dao in the drama. Besides, I wouldn't know who Ming Dao is until I've watched the drama. Well, her persistency certainly paid off because I finally gave in to her and gave La robe de Mariee des cieux (Heaven's Wedding Dress - Tian Guo De Jia Yi) a try. That was my first Taiwanese drama after a century.

I was not expectant La robe de Mariee des cieux to be a good drama when I took the VCD from Jo. Mainly because, one man's bread could be another man's poison. When I got home, I said, "What the heck, let's see if you're really as good as Jo said." And WALLA!! It was not half as bad as I thought. The start of first episode featured a very beautiful scenery of a sunflower garden - I am a SUCKER for beautiful and tranquil SCENERIES. After watching the first episode, I'm already on my way INTO MING DAO, the bike racer. And after watching the whole 20 episode, my HEART and SOUL has gone to MING DAO. I wouldn't say the drama was very good because there are too many flaws in the story. Here are some example to begin with:

1. Casting:
a. The leading lady (Cyndi Wang) has a very IMMATURE outlook.
b. The leading man's (William XXX) Mandarin sounds FUNNY - heard he was English educated from Jo.
c. The pairing of leading lady and leading man is not suitable - look more like brother and sister together.
d. The pair, Cyndi Wang and Ming Dao is even worst - like big brother and his kid sister.

2. Script:
a. There's great TEMPO at the start but going on slow dancing towards the end.
b. There's too much beating round the bush.

Here's what I like best 'bout the drama:
1. Beautiful scenery
2. Leading man have a great, funny, adorable and LOVEABLE Personal Assistant - FRANKIE
3. Cute leading lady; Cyndi Wang (she was only 21 then)
4. DROOL looking Ming Dao
5. A little cartoon-ish - moon replaced by sun
6. The rabbit - oolong cha
7. The phrase "You are half of the moon, the other half is your soul mate"
8. Friends sticking together thru the good, the bad and the worst

Now, Ming Dao is the only reason why I am watching Taiwanese drama again. While watching, I picked up some words here and there. And, believe it or not, I watched the drama without any help from malay subtitle because the VCD Jo lent me was bought in Taiwan. Though I couldn't understand much but I still managed to watch the whole drama without any hitches...hehehehe ;")

To relive the drama La robe de Mariee des cieux (Heaven's Wedding Dress - Tian Guo De Jia Yi) and Ming Dao's DROOL look, I have include the whole episode of the drama into my blog. Shi wang ni men hui shi huan (I don't think I got the pinyin right, but I know you all understand what I meant right). ;")
